McGuinness signed an exclusive two-year contract with Marvel in 2006, beginning with cover art for the limited series Civil War, a variant cover for Captain America #25 and the 12-page back-up story for Hulk vs. Wolverine under Marvel's Ultimate line.

In 2008, he drew the first six issues of the revamped Hulk series, also written by Loeb and then subsequently drew eleven additional issues in a sporadic order.
