History of Mahmud Asrar in Comic Book Art

Mahmud Asrar was born in Ankara, Turkey and took an interest in comic books during his youth. He majored in Fine Arts and Graphics at Hacettepe University.

Asrar worked on Digital Webbing Presents, an independent anthology which caught the attention of writer Jay Faerber and Invincible artist Ryan Ottley. The two brought him on to work for Image Comics. Asrar's first assignment was providing artwork for the monthly series Dynamo 5, a co-creation of Asrar's and Faerber. He also worked on the series Small Gods, also published by Image Comics. 

Asrar has also worked for Marvel Comics, pencilling for titles like She-Hulk: Cosmic Collision, the one-shot written by Peter David, published in 2008. He also drew the one-shot Brightest Day: Atom, written by Jeff Lemire. He pencilled on Conan the Barabarian series and Generation: The Thunder.

Asrar has also drawn for DC Comics, such as Supergirl in the rebooted DC Universe.

He became the lead artist on Marvel's Ultimate Comics: X-Men in 2013.

Asrar is also known for his pin-up illustrations of various DC and Marvel characters.
