History of David Mack in Comic Book Art

David Mack is an artist, a writer, director and designer who first started working in the comic book industry in the early 1990s. His first publications came in 1994 with Kabuki, published initially by Caliber Press, then Image Comics.

The series continues and is currently being published under Marvel Comics' imprint ICON Comics. The first book of the series, Kabuki: Circle of Blood was published while Mack was still attending college.

Kabuki Comics has been translated into seven languages and has sold almost two million copies worldwide, in addition to receiving international acclaim for its innovative storytelling, page design and painting techniques.

Mack has also worked for Marvel Comics, providing art work and writing for other series like Alias, Daredevil, New Avengers and White Tiger. He also created the character of Echo in Daredevil, which will be getting her own television series on Disney+.

Along with Brian Michael Bendis and Mike Oeming, Mack formed a new imprint at Marvel Comics called ICON, under which they have published their creator-owned comics like Kabuki and Powers. Wizard Magazine placed Mack in both their Top Ten Writers List and Top Ten Artists Lists, making him the only creator to be recognized in both.

Mack has been nominated for three Eisner Awards over his career for Best Graphic Novel, Best Cover Artist and Best Painter. In 2018, he was given an Inkpot Award for his Achievements in comic book art

He also creates artwork for opening title credits for shows like the Netflix TV series Jessica Jones and the film Captain America: The Winter Soldier, both of which received industry awards for Excellence in Titles Design.
