History of Sean Chen in Comic Book Art

Sean Chen is a penciller, colourist and cover artist. He got his start in the comic book industry after being discovered by legendary artist Barry Windsor-Smith. His first professional start came after he took a job as a penciller on the series X-O Manowar, the flagship title of the publisher Valiant Comics.

From there he began working on the series Bloodshot and Harbinger. He then became a main penciller on the series Rai and the Future Force, beginning with issue #9. His first issue on the series sold almost a million copies.

Chen left Valiant Comics to go work for Marvel Comics, starting on the Iron Man series, which he would stay on as the main penciller for a three-year run. During this time period he also drew for Wolverine, Elektra and the maxi-series X-Men: The End. 

Pencilling isn't the only talent that Chen provides for Marvel; he also contributes style guides to their Creative Services Division, helping them license art like box cover illustrations for video games like Iron Man, as well as other additional promotional merchandise like T-shirts, posters, designer toys, and lunchboxes.

Chen is also the regular artist on Nova, a monthly series published by Marvel. 

He has also pencilled for DC Comics on titles like Action Comics, Batman Beyond, Green Lantern: New Guardians, Secret Origins, Salvation Run, Steel, Superman: The Black Ring and Aquaman and the Others: Future Run.
